PEMRA suspends ARY’s license for 15 days

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) suspended the licence of ARY News for 15 days.

Rumours are also making rounds that PEMRA imposed a fine of Rs10 million on the channel, ARY for airing a program against members of the superior judiciary.

According to PEMRA, the channel ARY had to deposit the fine of Rs10 million before the expiry of the suspension period.

If the fine is not paid within the given time, the channel shall not be allowed to resume its transmission and its licence shall remain suspended till such time the fine is paid.

It is also being heard that four members of the PEMRA authority opposed the decision saying that the license of any media entity cannot be suspended without listening to its stance on the issue.

The members of the PEMRA authority opposing the decision, included Fariha Iftikhar, Israr Abbasi, Mian Shams and Zeba Hussain.
