A glance on Dr. Abdul Sattar Edhi’s life

Dr. Abdul Sattar Edhi,  is a prominent Pakistani philanthropist,social activist and an humanitarian. Everyone knows him for his excellent deeds for humanity.

He is the founder and head of the Edhi Foundation, which is a non-profit social welfare organization in Pakistan.

Edhi was born in 1928 in the Gujarat, India. In 1947 Edhi and his family migrated to Pakistan and setteled in Karachi.

Because of his excellent efforts for the welfare of people, he got great honour and respect. He received so many awards for his fabulous efforts for the well-being of humanity.

Here are some awards that Edhi has received with his marvellous efforts.

In 1985 Edhi received the Nishan-e-Imtiaz from the Government of Pakistan.

In 1986, together with his wife Bilquis Edhi, he received Ramon Magsaysay Award for Public Service. He is also the recipient of the Lenin Peace Prize and the Balzan Prize.

In 2006, Institute of Business Administration Pakistan conferred an honours degree of Doctor of Social Service Management for his services.

In September 2010, Edhi was also awarded with an honorary degree of Doctorate by the University of Bedfordshire.

In November 2011, Edhi was recommended for a Nobel Peace prize by the Pakistani Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani.

Edhi Foundation runs the world’s largest ambulance service and works for free nursing homes, orphanages, clinics, women’s shelters, for ill people.

It has run relief processes in Africa, Middle East, the Caucasus region, eastern Europe and US where it provided aid following the New Orleans hurricane of 2005.

Now Abdul Sattar Edhi is suffering from the Failure of kidneys, as announced on 26 June 2013 at SIUT and needs kidney donation.
