Measles: Cause of death for many children in Lahore Pakistan

Measles is a dangerous and highly contagious disease though it is completely preventable. So many Pakistanis are suffering from this disease especially in Punjab.

In Punjab 9,000 children have been victim of measles since January 2013 and 52 of them have lost their lives.

Lahore is badly affected by the disease; however, measles cases have also been reported in other cities of the province.

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued notice to Punjab government for investigating measures being taken to control the measles.

It is being observed that provincial health department has not taken adequate steps to eradicate the disease which caused deaths of children and the number of affectees is growing day-by-day.

Punjab Health Secretary Arif Nadeef has announced campaign for eliminating the measles disease.

This campaign will work from 29th April to 5th May and in this duration, about 30 lac children from 6 months to 10 years, should be vaccinated for measles disease.
