Pakistani Academy Award winning film-maker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has launched her new documentary titled Humaira: The Dream Catcher, at the Chime for Change press conference held in London on March 26.

The story is based on the struggles and determinations of a child Humaira Bachal, an activist based in Muwach Goth, Karachi.

When Humaira Bachal was a child she fought against her family and community in order to gain education.

With her continuous efforts she is successful to bring the change. She has made education accessible to other children in Muwach Goth at The Dream Foundation School. This school charges a minimal fee of one cent (about Rs10) per day.

Humaira has successfully educated over 1,200 children. Now she works to change people’s attitude and mind-sets towards education in her community.

The press conference was co-hosted by Hollywood actor Salma Hayek Pinault along with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Mariane Pearl and musician John Legend. In order to announce The Sound of Change, a global concert has scheduled to take place on June 1 this year (2013).

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy said “The difference between millions of deprived women across the developing world and me is education. If Humaira was here today, she would second that.

The very fact that girls are not even given the option to go to school in so many communities across the world is alarming and those of us who have a voice need to speak up and become their voice!”
