Faiz Aman Mela: Poets and musicians pay tribute to Faiz

Faiz Ahmad Faiz, is a famous Urdu poet and supporter of Sufism. He is being paid tribute on his birth anniversary.

The Faiz Aman Mela has been held every year since 1986 and provides a platform for people to discuss progressive principles and social issues.

This year he was paid a tribute by some leading showbiz celebrities and musicians at Faiz Aman Mela when his 103 birth anniversary was celebrated.

The event held under the supervision of Pakistan Television. There were no entry charges for the people and a crowd of people gathered there.

Most of the artists including Sumbul Raja, Waris Baig, Malkoo, Ragni, Arif Lohar performed recorded songs, as well as many Indian guests including Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhtar, Ila Arun. Tarannum Naz sang “Mujh Se Pehli Si Mohabbat”.

This year the poetry session was chaired by Dr Khalid Javed Jan, famous for his poem Mein Baghi Hoon. Aslam Gurdaspuri‚ Baba Najmi‚ Dr Khawaja Zakriya‚ Dr Kanwal Feroz‚ Shafique Ahmad Shafique and many others recited their poems and paid tribute to Faiz.

A book fair showcased Faiz’s poetry and books written about him.

On this event there were different stalls for several causes and campaigns including The Women’s Worker Helpline, Mirani Dam flood victims and the National Student Federation and they highlighted their causes. Sanjh Publications and Fiction House displayed their books.

After this event Tina Sani who is an internationally acclaimed classical singer, her concert held later that evening, where she presented some new and old numbers of Faiz.
