Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has asked all television and radio station channels of Pakistan to avoid offending religious views and destroying the moral values of Pakistani youth on their Valentine’s Day broadcasts.

PEMRA issued a letter to almost every Private TV channel, with the order of not to broadcast programs in the celebration of Valentine’s Day as celebration of Valentine’s Day is not according to our religious values and cultural ethos.

This event is considered against our religious teachings and Pakistani culture.

Furthermore PEMRA clarifies this decision is taken to honour viewers opinions as it has been received a huge amount of public complaints regarding celebration of Valentine’s Day.

PEMRA has  clarified that it has not ordered the Channels to ban Valentine’s Day program’s broadcast, but it has issued a request to channels because of the increased complaints of public as so many people have disapproved the existence of Valentine’s Day.

A few days ago some supporter of religious parties raised a protest against the celebration of Valentine’s Day. A rally of student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami went outside the Peshawar press club as part of protest.

Our young generation is paying so much attention on the celebration of Valentine’s Day and it has become a custom to give cards, flowers and gifts in order to celebrate this day.

It is necessary to teach them that the celebration of Valentine’s Day is not part of our religion and cultural values, therefore they have to remove this in Pakistani society.
