Coke Studio Pakistan and Rohail Hyatt inspiring Coke Studio in India on MTV

The most famous company Coca Cola that has no need of introduction introduced Coke Studio in 2008.  The producer Rohail Hyatt started Coke Studio in 2008 under his own instruction.

It has been observed that the blend of traditional eastern and western music become the norm in Pakistani music.

It became so popular at international level as names of some artists became so popular at national and international level. These names include Meesha Shafi, Arif Lohar, Zeb and Haniya, Saaen Zahoor and Javed Bashir.

The director of integrated marketing communications at Coca Cola India, Wasim Basir said, In no time, Coke Studio Pakistan had taken over the Indian market. “We had conducted research in 2010 which revealed that 25% of all Google searches in India were for Coke Studio Pakistan, this was amazing.”

In 2011, MTV released its first season of Coke Studio under the supervision of producer Leslie Lewis.  In spite of having many mainstream and folk artists, the Indian franchise turned out to be a major let down.

So many people agree that Coke Studio on MTV has helped to develop a platform for the alternative music scene within India which is still dominated by Bollywood music.

Aditya Swamy the executive vice president and business head of MTV India explains, “I picked up the phone and called Rohail Hyatt, to get his blessings before starting our own Coke Studio,” “I would not agree that it was a letdown, but we failed to meet expectations.”

Recently, many famous musicians have made their entry in Coke Studio season 6, including Ali Zafar, Abrar-ul-Haq etc.

Following Coke Studio Pakistan, MTV has successfully created an alternative sound for India. In spite of having a small group of artists for Coke Studio, like Euphoria and Lucky Ali, there has been no reliable parallel music industry before this project.
