- Pakistani

Two American Senators have introduced bill in the name of Malala Yousafzai. She is a 15 year old Pakistani girl belongs from Swat. She is a Pakistani peace activist who was shot by the Taliban, to provide right of education to girls in Pakistan.

The American Senators Barbara Boxer and Mary Landrieu Introduced the Malala Yousafzai Scholarship Act, which aims to increase scholarship opportunities for disadvantaged young women in Pakistan.

The Boxer-Landrieu bill would require a 30 per cent increase in the number of scholarships for the next four years which are being awarded under the programme and these additional scholarships should be given only to women.

This increased number of scholarship would expand educational fields.  In this way the scholarship owners would be able to enhance chances of getting significant employment.

Malala Yousafzai is a brave and courageous Pakistani girl who has bravely promoted for the education of women and girls. Malala has never ever been afraid in the face of threats on her own life.  She has been trying to provide the basic human right to Pakistani girls.

“This bill not only recognises Malala’s incredible courage, but will ensure that more young women in Pakistan are able to pursue their dreams through higher education,” Boxer said.

“The attack on Malala Yousafzai last October reminds us of the difficult obstacles women and girls face around the world every day, including poverty, low social standing and violence, in their quest to espouse the basic freedoms enjoyed by American women,” Senator Landrieu said.

“I am proud to introduce the Malala Yousafzai Scholarship Act alongside Senator Boxer and to dedicate it to Malala and the millions of other girls and women who risk their lives every day to gain an education. By lifting up the rights of women internationally, we can strengthen women’s rights here at home, too,” Landrieu said.

No doubt education is so important for every human being, man and woman. It performs a crucial role in formation of a society. When women and men have equal access to educational resources, only then they can be able to flourish and strength the family and society.

The Malala Yousafzai Scholarship Act would expand and enhance the existing United States Agency for International Development (USAID) scholarship program that is called the Merit and Needs-Based Scholarship Programme.

This program provides Scholarships for University studies to Pakistani men and women who belong to rural areas of Pakistan and cannot afford the educational expenses.
