Recently, there are escalated line of control tensions between Pakistan and India. India has returned Pakistani hockey players back to home as well as Pakistani artists are also forbidden to perform in India, therefore many scheduled performances of Pakistani artists in India, are being cancelled.

Following these Line of Control tensions between the two countries, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has warned Pakistani writers that they should not attend Jaipur Literature Festival.

According to the report, the work of seven Pakistani authors is shortlisted for the 2013 Prize for South Asian Literature including Jamil Ahmad (The Wandering Falcon) and Mohammed Hanif (Our Lady of Alice Bhatti).

Last year both the authors Jamil Ahmad and Mohammed Hanif attended the JLF but this year, due to cross border conflicts, the BJP has banned the presence of these authors.

“We will not allow them to enter the festival venue. There is no question of welcoming the Pakistani authors here at a time when their country has disrupted peace at the border,” said BJP Yuva Morcha state president Rishi Bansal.

However, the TOI report quoted a JLF organiser as saying: “All sessions would be held as per schedule in the presence of all guest authors.”
