The tragedy of Heer Ranjha is a most popular folklore of the subcontinent. Writers and film-makers, of Pakistan and India have made countless attempts to capture the intensity of Heer Rhanja’s failed romance.
However, this time around, cultural and social icon Mian Yousuf Salahuddin also known as Yousuf Salli is bringing this classical story in a serial which may be the first musical drama serial for PTV Home. The serial will have 13 episodes in Urdu and will include 14 songs in Punjabi.
Drama serial Heer Ranjha is based on folklore as well as this serial is a best source to promote our folklore with fabulous production.
Many versions of Heer Ranjha have been made but Mian Yousuf Salahuddin is the first one who has made a musical serial on this tragic tale. This serial will be a continuation of Virsa Heritage, a cultural promotion.
The drama serial Heer Ranjha is directed by Shahid Zahoor and the screenplay has been captured by Aqeel Ruby. Famous television actor Ahsan Khan is going to play the role of Ranjha and Pakistani model turned to actress Zaria Slahuddin will perform the role of Heer.
Sohail Sameer will play Murad Baloch and Shafqat Cheema will essay the role of Kedo, Heer’s uncle.
Yousuf Salahuddin, who is the executive producer for the drama, explains that he got inspiration to take up this project by Ustad Allah Bakhsh’s paintings.
Some of the scenes of the serial in the musical look are exactly like Bakhsh’s paintings, which Salahuddin collected after extensive search. He said, these paintings will be combined in the drama which will add depth to each episode of the drama serial Heer Ranjha.
This serial will highlight the undiscovered scenic beauty that is in the heart of Punjab. The locations which can be seen in the serial give a sight of the splendid Mughal architecture and Lahore is famous for it.
The producer of the serial Yousaf Salahuddin has composed some songs for the drama and has confined the lyrics of the soundtrack.
Classical music expert Rahat Fateh Ali Khan supported him in composing and singing for the musical serial while Sahir Ali Bagga played a vital role in handling the sound arrangement and singing a few tracks as well.
The connection between the three has been a deep-rooted association which has in the past for several hit songs such as “Koi Dil Mein”. This song was performed by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan with Yousu Salauhddin as the musical director and Bagga was responsible for the composition.
This track became so popular for its classical jazz score that it got the Best Music Talent at the London South Asian Film Festival 2012.
Some other talented musicians also participated in the soundtrack of “Heer Ranjha” including Hina Nasrullah, Fariha Parvez, Humera Channa, Sanam Marvi and Malaika Ali.
Yousaf Salahuddin states that the songs in the serial are simple and melodious so that the viewers can connect to them easily.
Drama serial Heer Ranjha will be on air on 26th January 2013, only On PTV Home. Hopefully viewers will see an amazing difference in this serial as compared to other serials.
