Overseas Pakistanis are waiting to get relief on call charges

Overseas Pakistanis are facing the problem of high rates to make call to their friends and family members in Pakistan. In September the call rates have increased for overseas Pakistanis to make a call to Pakistan.

Lahore High Court was dealing the case to reduce the call rates. Still now no decision is being taken.  Overseas Pakistanis, who are following Lahore High Court proceedings, will have to wait for another month to possibly get relief on calls.

In its latest hearing, Lahore High Court judge postponed case till January 14th, 2013 when PTA board contended that federal government needs time to submit notification for withdrawal of International Clearing House (ICH).

Overseas Pakistanis
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority was earlier (during last hearing) asked to produce the official document for withdrawal of ICH.

In latest hearing PTA explained that the tax on international incoming calls was imposed on direction of federal government (or Ministry of Information and Technology). It was said the tax had been withdrawn; however, there was no notification.

LHC judge delayed further hearing till January 14th, 2013 and asked PTA to produce the notification along with an acquiescence report
.
Overseas Pakistanis are waiting for the relief after they were burdened with five to six fold extra charges for making calls to Pakistan.

Through an order that was issued on December 4th, 2012, PTA had withdrawn ICH, however, charges on international incoming calls were not reversed.

The additional charges on international incoming calls will be reversed only after the withdrawal of PTA’s command that had increased call charges.
