Humaima Malick won South Asian Rising Star Film Award as best lead actress

Pakistani film actress Humaima Malick has won the first ever South Asian Rising Star Film Award, in the Best Lead Actress category, for her role in ‘Bol’. The Rising Star Awards are given to South Asian films that have been released in the past year.

The South Asian International Film Festival is presented in New York by HBO. The awards were part of the 9th annual South Asian International Film Festival (SAIFF).
Nine categories had been announced in accordance with the 9th anniversary of SAIFF. The award ceremony was hosted by Bollywood actress Sunny Leone and US filmmaker Jay Chandrasekhar.

Humaima was competing with Bollywood actresses Tannishtha Chatterjee (Dekh Indian Circus), Parineeti Chopra (Ishaqzaade), Rasika Dugal (Corrode) and Preeti Desai (Shor in the City). She was nominated in the Best Lead Actress category and was over whelmed with the achievement.

Humaima Malick was nominated for Shoaib Mansoor’s social film ‘Bol’ that is based on a female convict on death row whose last wish is to tell her story to the media.

Earlier, Humaima Malick has been awards for her best performance in the movie Bol, as she was awarded with Best Actress award at the 11th Lux Style Awards 2012 and Best Actress award at London Asian Film Festival.

She has been nominated at the Asia Pacific Screen Award in Best Actress category against the Indian actress Vidya Balan.
