Meesha Shafi has performed at Doha Tribeca Film Festival 2012

Pakistani singer and model Meesha Shafi has performed at the official Doha Tribeca Film Festival 2012. The Reluctant Fundamentalist (TRF) opened the prestigious festival in Doha. Meesha was styled by Oslo-based stylist Amar Faiz.

It was fourth edition of the event in which Meesha Shafi performed accompanied by her husband and musician Mahmood Rahman. Both of them performed in front of crowded audience just before the screening of the film to an audience including personalities such as Hollywood legend Robert De Niro.

Later the Qawwal Brothers, Farid Ayaz and Abu Mohammad joined Meesha Shafi, for a collaborative performance featuring songs of Meesha’s cinematic debut venture The Reluctant Fundamentalist (TRF).

Meesha Shafi made her cinematic Hollywood debut with ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist’. A strong adaption of author Moshin Hamid’s bestseller and directed by the internationally acclaimed filmmaker Mira Nair who selected Meesha Shafi for the movie.

The movie follows the story of Changez, an ambitious young man whose identity hinges between a sparkling stockbroker career in the Big Apple and his home culture thousands of miles away in Lahore, Pakistan.

Meesha Shafi is a multitalented personality of Pakistan. She has got some inherited talents. She is also a trained artist from the National College of Arts, one of South Asia’s leading art institutions’.

She is the daughter of famous Pakistani actress Saba Hameed and her ability to write is born from the heritage of her grandfather, Hameed Akhtar, a revolutionary Urdu writer who ran the ‘ Progressive writers’ movement’ for many years.

Meesha Shafi launched her single music career in 2010 and became so popular in Coke Studio. Her session performance in collaboration with Pakistani folk legend Arif Lohar received hits in millions. It has been the most viewed song ever exported by Pakistan.

In 2012, she returned for another season of Coke Studio where she collaborated with the qawaal group the Chakwalis to come out with the seasons’ biggest hit.
