Pakistani Film Josh at Mumbai Film Festival

Iram Parveen Bilal is the first Pakistani director whose debut film “Josh” (english title, Against the Grain) is all set for screening at the admired 14th Mumbai Film Festival.

The 14th Mumbai Film Festival is organised by Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) and is being held from 18th October to 25th October, 2012.

Film ‘Josh’ has an original script. It is a completely fictional story, inspired by the truth of Khaana Ghar. It is the only Pakistani fiction film to be screened in the world cinema category through Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) in the last five years.

The film ‘Josh’ is based on an enthusiastic school teacher Fatima whose life shatters in a single moment when she finds out her nanny Nusrat mysteriously disappears.

It is the story of a woman who searches for a dubious truth in a feudal village. The story of the film deals with different challenges of Pakistan as poverty, class differences, feudalism, individual empowerment, and women’s rights.

A famous Pakistani actress Aamina Sheikh is playing the leading role of Fatima. Other cast of the film includes Aamina Sheikh, Mohib Mirza, Khalid Malik, Navin Waqar, Adnan Shah Tipu, , Kaiser Khan Nizamani, Nyla Jafri, Parveen Akbar, Faizan Haqquee and Ali Rizvi, Salim Mairaj.

Iram Parveen Bilal told the theme of the film ‘Josh’ deals with ‘Never give up’, change is possible and the lesson of unity, if a nation stand united, nothing can harm them. The film explores the solutions are attainable with struggle and unity.

The director Iram Parveen Bilal told that she didn’t depend on any foreign experts for the film. She completed the production process with Pakistani team. Ali azmat’s song Na Re Na is featured in the film.

Iram Parveen Bilal is very excited for festival as well as she hopes the film would be screened in many more festivals.
