The Use of Three R’S of Logical Consequences as a Strategy to control students’ misbehaviour

- Pakistani

Logical Consequences are the ways through which a teacher can construct opportunities for the students in order to build his/ her self-control. In logical consequences you can guide the student by providing different choices and decide the reactions of their responses with them.

A logical consequence has two steps.

  1. In the first step you try to stop the misbehaviour.
  2. In the second step you show the reaction about students behaviour and teach the alternative behaviour.

In my experience this strategy is successful to a great extent. When students are guided respectfully about their action and its resu, they learn from their mistakes.

The Use of Three R’S

Respect

Students must be imparted with respectful words and nonverbal gestures.

  • Clarify the mistake and its result to the student.
  • Focus on the action of the student for which you have an objection.
  • Use a normal tone of voice.
  • Speak straight away to the student in a polite manner.

Relevant

  • It deals directly to the students’ action that what is the rule and what action has to be done. For example if student tells the teacher to go to drink water he/she go
  • It shows what are the responses for not following the conditions of any task. For example: when teacher give any assignment to the student and the student is not going to do it and wasting his/her time then teacher tells the student that he/she will not enjoy the  game period until he/she complete his/her assignment.
  • Students should abide by the signals that are for different purposes. Otherwise they should be treated to the reaction that is according t the violation oh that specific signal.

Realistic

  • Reasonable responses should be expected from the students
  • The consequences should not be such as that students are going to be deprived from their privileges.
  • They should be given the guidance as much time as they require.

Logical Consequences need to be applied with respect, relevant and realistic guidelines that help the students to understand the consequences of their own choices. This strategy will help the students to learn from their mistakes and make them responsible and accountable.
